Ritver Epoxy Intercoat MIO is a Polyamide cured Epoxy High Build Primer or mid coat in high performance protective coating system designed for industrial and marine environments. It provides excellent corrosion protection to the substrates due to its very high Micaceous Iron Oxide (MIO) content. It can be used as a direct to metal (DTM) primer or on top of Zinc Silicate or Epoxy Zinc Rich Primers. When top coated with Polyurethane, Vinyl or Chlorinated Rubber, the material can provide excellent protection to any steel structure exposed to the harsh environments.

Substrates: Steel and Metal Structures.
Area of Use: As a primer or anti corrosive mid coat providing excellent adhesion and build for tank coatings, structural steelwork, chemical plant pipelines, cranes steel structures etc.,

A good surface preparation and following the method statement / recommended system procedure of Ritver is an ideal recommendation for the application of Ritver Epoxy Intercoat MIO.

For Metals:
In case of mild conditions of application, remove the previous coat with a mechanical tool, wire mesh, or a mild sweep blast is to be done. In case of detailed Surface preparation is warranted, remove all wax, oil and grease should be removed by solvent cleaning in accordance with the guidelines given by SSPC-SP1. Where necessary remove weld spatter and round off all rough weld seams and sharp edges to a smooth surface. Ideally abrasive blast clean to a minimum standard of Sa 2½ Swedish Standard SIS 05 59 00 or ISO 8501-1:1988. Any surface defects revealed by blast cleaning should be ground, filled or treated in a suitable manner. After blasting, remove dust from the surface. The surface to be coated must be clean and dry with Ritver Epoxy Primer before applying Ritver Epoxy High Build MIO and then the top coats.

For Aluminium:
Degrease and abrade with Ritver Epoxy Thinner and wet-or-dry paper. Apply Ritver Epoxy Intercoat MIO. Immediately follow with the top coat.

Exclusions for successful application include perpetually wet surfaces and also large cavities on metal surfaces.

Adequate ventilation is an ideal situation as it helps in drying and the good application itself. Avoid high humid conditions i.e., >95% when condensation is likely to interfere and also when the surface temperature is at least 3°C above dew point.

Application:
When mixed, the product can be applied by brush or airless spray or if the viscosity is too high as in during winter times, addition of thinner of up to 15 percent using Ritver Epoxy Thinner. A normal brush or a roller may be used for difficult shapes or hard to reach areas. When applied by airless spray, ensure that the pressure be at 2100 psi for good atomization. Nozzle size should be 0.017 – 0.023 inches
